|
Olson+Olson Planning and Design is an award-winning firm based in Calgary, Alberta specializing in landscape architecture, town planning, urban design and regional landscape planning. Projects of the firm are often prototypical, developmental and research based. Clients include federal, provincial and municipal governments, forestry, parks and environmental protection agencies, as well as private industry. Responsibilities: Supporting the development of innovative approaches to environmental problem solving in the areas of landscape ecological planning, forest management, municipal services, and landscape visualization. This includes refinement of environmental planning methods, modeling techniques, information infrastructure, and presentation and distribution methods. Creation of a broad range of wildlife and land use planning models. Maintenance of databases and management of GIS services. Research and written report preparation.

Essential Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in landscape ecology, forest management, land use planning and spatial modeling.
- Minimum 3 - 5 years working experience (including programming) with ArcInfo and ArcView.
- Extensive experience with vector and raster data techniques, standards, and quality assurance procedures
- Experience with municipal GIS and an understanding of spatial database design
- Knowledge of Windows is essential.
- Ability to work in a cross disciplinary fast paced environment
- Strong research and writing skills are essential.
Desirable Requirements:
- Knowledge Unix and Macintosh operating systems
- Experience with Environmental Impact Assessment
- Experience with ERDAS Imagine and Woodstock Stanley spatial wood supply modeling software
- Experience with landscape visualization and remote sensing software would be an asset.
- Spanish fluency is desirable but not essential.
Education: Masters degree in Landscape Architecture, Ecology, Geography, Forestry or Geomatics is highly desirable. Undergraduate or related degrees may also be considered.
